taking risks

I once took a risk  and moved out of state after high school. I wanted to move so that I could get out of my bubble and honestly away from my family in order to really explore who I am as an individual. I went to Arizona and while I was there I attended Grand Canyon University. Ill be honest I only went to that school because it was cheap and far enough away, I didn't have a plan for what I wanted to do just yet. When I got there of course it was hard to say goodbye but if I'm telling the truth I was perfectly happy and comfortable away from home. I thought it was going to be this massive adjustment and in some ways it was but for the most part I was the happiest I have ever been. It was fine for a while and I only missed home when I would get sick, which for some reason was very often. Of course though there was the aspect of school, I had a year to think about what I wanted to do in life and even though I'm still on the fence it was clear GCU did not have what I needed in order to go in the right direction. So when I had to transfer I panicked, school is expensive and well for that reason I ended up back in Colorado. I love Colorado so so much I can't complain at all its a great state, I am grateful I took the chance in Arizona and even though it didn't pan out I am exactly where I need to be. Being away taught me who I am and what I want out of life and eventually I will take another risk and move out of state again, this time Oregon but as for now Im just enjoying the ride.

  1. Hi Caitlyn! I am very touched by your post and found that I unexpectedly could relate to you in so many ways! I too had the desire of wanting to move to somewhere new after I graduated high school. My plan was to go to Oregon, specifically Ashland Oregon where Southern Oregon University is located. I however did not follow through because my main reason for wanting to leave was because I so desperately want to be able to live in other places than Colorado. I eventually see myself coming back but I know I would love to live in other places as well. At that time I realized that I was not ready to leave my life here behind. I am a very social person and the thought of moving somewhere unknown was scary.
I admire you for following through with your plans though! And even though you ended up back here in Colorado, you'll always be able to remember back on your time in Arizona and reflect back on what you learned while being away!

  2. I can totally relate with wanting to escape the bubble you've lived in your whole life. It's definitely a scary decision, but I feel being on your own really helps you get to know yourself. I want to move away from Colorado one day, just not sure where or when!
